July 4, 2007

Oh dear....I have made a grave mistake. Somewhere along the way, my dear Italian grandmothers name has been lost in translation. It appears that Grandma Rosa is, in fact, Grandma Flora....yes, I have been referring to this delightful woman by the wrong name for nearly 3 weeks. I hesitate to admit this embarassing error, but in the spirit of honesty and full disclosure, I am forced to air my miscalculation. In fairness, though, you must agree that "Rosa" and "Flora" are not terribly far off. Thankfully, I have not actually called her "Rosa" to her face...very often...and hopefully those few times were chalked up to a communication confusion.

I was asking Thomas (my brother) for the familys address and the spelling of their names. When it came to the granmothers name, my pencil was poised to begin scribing "Rosa", when all of a sudden, he rambled off F-L-O-R-A. You can imagine my surprise at this apparent turn of events. However, I was able to pull it together and only exhibited a mild about of shock....I went cross-eyed just briefly and quickly snapped my mouth shut. I quietly and humbly wrote "Flora" and took myself off to my bedroom to nurse my embarassment.

On a more confident note...HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!!! I am sure that everyone is enjoying the day relaxing, eating, and spending time with friends and family. Have an absolutely fantastic time! I miss you all!

P.S. I have added more pictures below-take a look :-)

Happy 4th of July! I'm glad you are looking forward to seeing Matt. :) We're glad you like him. We'll probably see Amber at the final Zimmerman BBQ tonight as the Zim's are moving to Albany.

We had a fun Birthday Saturday with Ben and Anne. I'm glad they came down. We had a family concert in the living room where the kids showed off for Ben and he played them some songs too. Matt slept through it in the TV room.

See you soon,
Liz

I'm very sorry to here about the unfortunate incident with the name mix-up:)!

You and Matt are going to have such a wonderful time together! It is just a shame that the boys couldn't come as well. I think that Louis would love the beautiful architecture, while Thomas would prefer the solitude of a quiet art gallery (with plenty of places to lurk).

Be safe and have fun!

This is yo grandpapa. No matter what language you say it in it is still yograndpapa!

Your dad and I have been truing to communicate from here to Tahoe. Connection so bad we are muttering (new language). Tuesday the tenth I may meet them at Mcdermit to hunt eggs. However, with the communication so bad we will be lucky to be on the same planet.

Have fun when Matt gets there, Keep us informed of you travels, then I don't have to go see Europe; I will let you be the eyes.

Love you:

Amber,
Please do not bother saving any BBQ sauce for me...I would hate for you to go without, on my account!

How did your interviews go?? Let me know as soon as you hear back! I am keeping my fingers crossed for you!

We will have to go to Milan...although I am not sure if you could handle all of the shopping...it is a bit intense :-) However, there are plenty of other things to do and we would have the best time!

See you soon,
Kristin

Hi Liz!

Hopefully your 4th was great fun! Mine was spent uneventfully, although my family did recognize the fact that it was an important American holiday. They asked me if Americans were celebrating Bush and I was very quick to assure them that we "ABSOLUTELY were not!"...he is not a popular person over here, in general...not surprising, I must say :-)

Talk to you soon!

Christy,

You are so right...the boys would love Italy. However, I feel like if they did come, they would refuse to leave...so it is probably best that they stayed home this time :-) Louis would be very impressed with the architecture...he has always had an eye for design....and Thomas is an appreciator of the arts. It would be too much to ask them to leave this place!

See you soon! Ohh, how was Alaska??

Yo grandpapa!

I am sorry to hear of your communication difficulties! I can certainly empathize :-) It sounds like you will be feeding the rock addiction "just one more time" there in McDermitt...please, at least have a designated driver to keep you two safe :-) I guess dad has purchased some type of fancy German rock hunting backpacks so that you can carry more rocks...just what you need :-)

Well, I cannot be too critical...Matt and I just stuffed 12 bottles of wine and 6 cases of olive oil into his travel backpack...we are now leaving clothes behind to carry home the products of Italy...I guess addictive personalities just run in the family :-)
Love you lots.

Yograndot,
Kristin
