June 15, 2007

Today, I found out where I am going to teach English! I am going to a tiny village, called Roccofranca. It is about 2 hours east of Milan. Apparently it is agriculturally based, and is very lovely. I hear that the people are "just georgeous"...that is, they are very friendly and a delight to be around :-) Roccofranca appears to be about 75 miles from the Swiss border, so I am quite far north....hopefully I will be able to travel to Switzerland on the weekend! I will actually be at this camp for two weeks, and will be traveling there with 6 other teachers from A.C.L.E. There, we will meet up with 2 more A.C.L.E. teachers who have already been teaching this week. There are 91 children signed up for this camp, so I do believe that we will have our hands full!

I am going to be staying with a family, so that should be quite an experience! I hear that the mothers take VERY good care of their guests and feed them deliciously well. I am quite excited to be going to a small Italian town, because I believe that it will be an experience that I may otherwise have missed out on.

Cheers for now!

Sign me up for next year! It sounds like you are having an amaizing time even though you are working really, really hard. I am so excited that you are getting to live with an Italian family! Though I am sure it will be difficult with the language barrior I know you will do great. I had to laugh when you talked about gestures, I think their should be acting courses that go along with language courses, after all that is what you end up doing half the time anyway. One thing I learned though, was that not all the gestures are exactly the same, which led to some confusion in certain areas. Well I love you very much and can't wait to hear more about your adventures.

Hi Kristin! This is your long lost mama from America. I have tried several times to post a "blog" but the computer has a particular aversion to my comments so it has refused to post them. I have finally signed up on my own account and hope that this time my comments will not be lost to cyberspace. Grandma is here and wants me to tell you hi!-she and Grandpa will attempt a "blog" after they go home. We are so excited about your teaching post! We can't wait to hear about your family there, teaching, and travelling experiences. Staying with a family ought to help you learn phrases that will make communicating with your students easier. I rest easy knowing you have a mama Italia taking care of you and feeding you-bring back some good recipes! Love You!

Dear Kristin,
So here I am slaving away with Great Discoveries and you are living with an Italian family and being fed delicious food. We miss you and I am so excited to hear about your great adventures. You'll be proud of me. I started my own blog for my grad students called "literacy warriors." Check it out though there isn't much there yet!
Best,
Carol

Hey Kristin! This is you long-lost sister-in-law sitting on American soil. I am so envious of you right now:) I would love to be experiencing Italian sunsets and drinking in the picturesque views.
These kids are so blessed to have an amazing teacher like you. I know that you will be a wonderful teacher of English, and these kids will have a great experience. We love and miss you!

Thank you guys for all of your kind comments! I cannot tell you how nice it is to be able to communicate in English. My Italian family could not be dearer, but the language barrier is a bit of a problem...ummm, I mean, challenge! It seems that I am the only one that speaks English and they are the only ones that speak Italian....yes, Kari, we are certainly utilizing hand gestures and resorting to universal noises (i.e. woof, meow, hee-haw...they have a donkey) to get our points across..please excuse me when I get home...my speach may have digressed just a bit :-)

Mom, I tried calling you back on Sunday, but your cell phone was off. I will try again soon. I miss you guys so much!

Carol, I AM so proud that you have your own blog....BRAVO!...as they say here in Italia :-)

Holly, I would love for you to be here experiencing Italy with me. However, there is ONE downside to Italy-they have mosquitos...and we are not talking little innocent ones like those at home...these are giant blood suckers...and they LOVE my face. I woke up this morning with a swollen eye, forehead (between by eyebrows), and the right side of my upper lip. Needless to say, the little children were quite afraid....
